Much of Warhol's silkscreen reproductions were portraits of famous celebrities or friends. The Marilyn Monroe portrait series was among the artist's most memorable, with variations ranging from single images and gold-leaf images to multiple images of Marilyn Monroe, whom Warhol and his friends absolutely adored. Monroe's most recognizable feature, her lips, were also depicted by Warhol in silkscreens.
